The Nameless City

Written by Faith Erin Hicks.
Published in 2016 by First Second.

Every nation that invades the City gives it a new name. But before long, new invaders arrive and the City changes hands once again. The natives don’t let themselves get caught up in the unending wars. To them, their home is the Nameless City, and those who try to name it are forever outsiders.

Kaidu is one such outsider. He’s a Dao born and bred–a member of the latest occupying nation. Rat is a native of the Nameless City. At first, she hates Kai for everything he stands for, but his love of his new home may be the one thing that can bring these two unlikely friends together. Let’s hope so because the fate of the Nameless City rests in their hands

It’s very action based. I also like how it’s creative because every city has a name in real life.

The Nameless City is an amazing graphic novel about two children called Kai and Rat. Kai is born Dao, he is a member of the newest nation, and wants to sleep. While Rat, on the other side, always is hungry and is only a native of the nameless city. The two always go exploring the city which sometimes gets them into trouble but also sometimes gets them caught in an adventure.

Overall, I like this book because it is a book about adventure and gets exciting a lot of times. The book also is sometimes a bit funny because they usually outwit their enemies by tricking them. The last reason why I like the Nameless City is basically because it is really creative and the reason I say it is really creative is because no one really has written a book with a city with a thousand names or no name so this book is very interesting and creative at the same time. Compared to other graphic novels that I have read, this book would definitely be the one that I like the most and it would be the one that has the most adventure but it might have the same about of action as the other graphic novels.

I would recommend this book to everybody who likes action and adventure except for children under three years old because most small children don’t really know how to read and if they did, they probably wouldn’t understand anything and because there is a bit of fighting.

The Nameless City is a fiction book and graphic novel about a boy, Kaidu or Kai who meets a native girl who hates him because he is an outsider but then they somehow become friends.
The book was an adventure book because he went on an adventure and learned how to climb the roofs. The purpose of the book had been achieved because he managed to save the city and he learned more about the city and more about the Dao. He then find out that he had also made a friend from the natives, Rat.
I recommend this book 10 out of 10 for children who want to read an adventure.

I love how the book shows how friendship can be found in the oddest places and how you should always give people a second chance. The book told many valuable lessons such as never leave your friend behind or always look out for people you care about. It was also funny and exciting. I also love how the illustrator captures every emotion perfectly. Overall I think it was a great book. Joceline

Kaidu moves from the Dao homelands to the nameless city where his father lives and meets a girl named Rat after a few days. They have a race and Kaidu wins and then they make a deal: Kaidu gives Rat food in exchange for lessons on how to run as fast as her. Little do they know a gang of assassins are planning to murder the general of all blades. Rat finds out a few days before the attempt to kill the general of all blades that they are planning to murder the general of all blades. Then a Dao guard finds Rat on the rooftops of the building and throws her into the river. A while later Kaidu finds her and they save the general of all blades and he thanks them and says they are welcome in this city as long as he rules it. I think this story is packed with adventure and suspense. One reason it’s packed with suspense is that you don’t know if the assassins will kill the general of all blades or not. Another reason is that when Kaidu jumps the bridge you don’t know if he is going to make it across (spoiler alert! He does not make it across but luckily he knows how to swim). The main reason it is packed with adventure is that it takes place in the big city and that is a place for adventure. Another reason it is packed with adventure is that there is a lot of going places and that is adventure. I would recommend this book to anyone who can read and understands humour because It has a lot of strong vocabulary and has a bunch of humour. Honestly I definitely would have voted for it if I was at Hillhurst last year because it is one of the best book that I have read, and that is saying a lot because I’ve read a lot of very good books.
