Word Nerd
By Susin Nielsen

Holden School

I did not want to read this book because my classmates said it has swearing in it and has stuff not for 4,5 and maybe 6. I think it would be better if this book would be for students that understand the actions and have their parents approve first!!

This book was not appropriate!!! MY MOM READ IT AND SHE THOUGHT NO KIDS THAT ARE IN ELEMENTARY SHOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO READ IT.

Holden School

Our class read Word Nerd, and we felt that there were a lot of inappropriate words and actions in this book. We felt offended by some of the material and feel it is certainly not appropriate for grades 4, 5, 6 and possibly junior high. We felt there was far too much swearing, and we know that our families would not have approved of all of us reading this novel. It had good ideas and good themes, but they were more appropriate for high school then elementary. We felt as though this book blindsided us with some of its graphic content.

St.Patrick Fine Arts Elementary School

I looked at the title and the picture and I'm like this is not going to be a good book but when I got into it, it was amazing. 9 out of 10. Great book, I love Cosmo, I would want him as my brother. Knock Knock, who's their, Little old lady, little old lady who, I didn't know you could yodel. Good Job Suisin Nielsen.

Holy Name

I liked this book because I like Ambrose always look at boobs when I look at a chick. I would have pictured a girl naked (probably Brittany Spears) if I got nervous during a Scrabble club.

Ecole Holy Name

I liked Word Nerd because it was funny yet sad and very unexpecting. I don’t think I have read a book like it. Susan Nelsen is an extraordinary author.

Holy Name School

I really enjoyed the book War Brothers. I learnt that kids in other places in the world are not as fortunate as us in Canada and sometimes we do not accept what we have. I would definitely recommend this book to people who like fiction stories.

Holy Name

This is a good book. It shows you life from the eyes of a teenage boy (school, friends, and puberty). One thing that I did not like about Word Nerd was that it had quite a bit of coarse language.

Holy Name

I like this book because it’s funny and I want to read more. For example, it is funny because when Ambrose says that he tripped in Amanda’s arms, he actually fell so that she would hold him.

Holy Name

I loved Word Nerd! It was funny, it had some good action, and is definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read! I thought Susin Nielsen used some unnecessary coarse language in the book.

Holy Name

I really enjoyed the story because it kept you wanting to read more. My favorite parts were when Ambrose goes to the scrabble tournament without telling his mom and when he fights off the Three Stooges. cheese

Ecole St.Mary's

This was the best book I have ever read. I could barely but it down and it had different parts of the story that were funny, sad, happy and dramatic. It did have some parts that I wouldn't recommend if you not grade 6 in up. I will for sure be reading way more books by Susin Neilson.

Muriel Clayton MIddle School

I give this book a 9/10. It is funny and exciting (if you find scrabble exciting). It was about a normal family of 2. It was a good book.

Keephills School

I enjoyed this book because the way the author wrote was really neat. She did a good job on making you feel and think like the character. I also enjoyed the humor in the story. (Friendless nerd killed by peanut) This book is about a word nerd who is good at scrabble. One day he was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Econompoulos and then he hears a knock then a young man walks into house. Mrs. E runs up to him and gives him a hug.” Finally my son Cosmo is home”. If you want to know more read the book.

Keephills School

Word Nerd is about a teenager named Ambrose who has a crazy life with mean bullies and overprotective mothers. He moves from one province to another so it's really hard to make friends, but when he moves to British Columbia he almost dies from the 3 stooges trying to kill him from his allergies. He meets and ex-con man named Cosmo who teaches him how to stick up for himself and him and Cosmo become good friends. But when one of Cosmo's friends comes and tries to hurt him because he doesn't have the money he owed him. When Ambroes's mother finds out Ambroes was involved she wants to move to another province when he is just getting settled and making friends. I liked this book because it was funny and that you can't judge someone by their looks. I also liked it because they made it feel like you were in his shoes. I liked the humor it used. I recommend this book for grade 7 and up.

Keephills

Word Nerd is about a young teenager named Ambrose who has many adventures. He has the weirdest life almost dies from a peanut an over protected mom and friends with a ex con man. He moves from city to city but always has no friends. He then feels lonely so when his mom goes out he sneaks out and tries to make friends well he made friends with the con man Cosmo. He lies to his mom and sneaks out going out with Cosmo. Ambrose wants to go to the Scrabble Club and wants to learn how to learn to stick up for himself. And the rest is for you to read. Word Nerd was well descriptive and the author really got me into the book and made me feel like I was in Ambrose's shoes. The author also was very realistic from what the adults would say to the kids. It was the most humorous most funny book I have ever read. I give this book a nine out ten and a ten out of ten for humorous. I recommend this book to grades 7 and up.

I thought Word Nerd was an amazing book. The starting of the book made me want to read more and more. It has great description and a fantastic ending. I like how it says that the book is peanut free. One bad thing is it swears sometimes and it talks about some inappropriate things. The book should only be read by Grade 6 students or older.

GeprgePNicholson

We think this book is not appropriate for grade 4 and under and is more appropriate for Grades 5 and up because of the older content and words. We thought this book was funny because the main character in the book is really dramatic. We think this book is funny in the beginning and in the middle has some bad words and at the end is good because the boy moves and finds a school that is happy in. oilfields high school

this book is very good its about a nerd with a peanut allergy, no friends and is home schooled. the upside of this kid is that he is aausome scrabble player and scrabble is where his troubles start.

Crestwood

Crestwood

Crestwood School

Noble Central

I really liked this book, because it's funny, sad, and happy, all at the same time! Ambrose reminds me of me, since I also like to play Scrabble. I know lots of words, and I use them, in stories I write at school.

Holy Name

This book is a great one because it teaches you that u cant judge a book by its cover. (in other words you cant judge a person by their looks or interests) The only thing that I didn't like was when Ambrose looked at a women he only thought of one thing. (you know what I mean.)

Noble Central

Word Nerd was an awesome/funny book. My favorite character was Ambrose's mom because she was VERY over protective. Word Nerd is a great book. My favourite part was when Ambrose ran away from home to Granville Island! Altogether, it was an TOTALLY awesome book.

C. Ian. Mclaren

Word nerd is a funny book and a way of showing some good and fun things about meeting new people. I would recomend this to anyone.

C. Ian McLaren School

This was an excellent book. I would score this book a 9 out of 10 because on one part it got really boring. But it was a great book.

C. Ian McLaren School

Word Nerd was a really good book! I would recommend it for kids in grade 6 and up, because there are swears (1-6) and some really gross parts. But it was a really good book.
