Rain Shadow

Written by Valerie Sherrard.
Published in 2014 by Fitzhenry & Whiteside.

Bethany knows that she is special. She doesn’t learn things as easily as her classmates do and that sometimes makes them mean to her. They call her names – including the really “bad” name. Even her mom and her sister Mira say unkind things at times. But Bethany has friends like her neighbor Mrs. Goldsborough as well as happy times with Dad when he gets home from work. And now, Mira has promised to protect her from the bullies when the new school year begins. Then tragedy strikes, tearing Bethany’s world apart in ways she could never have imagined, and she starts to wonder if there will ever be a place that feels like home again.

I read “Rain Shadow” by Valerie Sherrard. It is very interesting and probably on of my favorite books now. I LOVED the way Valerie wrote this book so much, I would not change a single thing about this story. I can easily give this book 5 stars because it whenever Bethany had another problem she would deal with it and she just kept on going, and the book is very detailed and well written. I would recommend this book for everyone grades 6 and up because it is a bit more challenging and some younger kids might not get what is happening. Overall this is a great book and I definitely recommend reading it. -AJ
